That’s why we are excited to announce our fundraising campaign to support one of our dedicated staff members, Kyan McMurtrie who has been chosen to attend the prestigious New Zealand Aspiring Leaders Forum at Wellington's Beehive. This incredible opportunity will not only enhance his leadership skills but also bring back valuable insights to benefit our entire Youth Encounter team.
Why the Aspiring Leaders Forum?
The New Zealand National Aspiring Leaders Forum is a renowned event that brings together young leaders from across the country to explore leadership principles, build networks, and develop their potential. The forum focuses on character, integrity, and service, aligning perfectly with the values we uphold at Youth Encounter.
Meet Kyan
Since Kyan was young, he has had a strong desire to connect with people and build close relationships. Moving around frequently with his family made it hard for him to form lasting friendships, and he was always searching for a place to belong. Youth Encounter showed him the importance of community, and now he has some incredible lifelong friends. Eager to pass on that feeling of belonging, Kyan helps youth see that they are accepted, valued, and have a place where they belong. Initially indifferent to understanding his strengths, Kyan now appreciates how they help him understand himself better and make the most of his abilities. Joining the Youth Encounter team in May 2023 as part of our activity team, Kyan is involved in instructing and managing equipment. Now the Camps Coordinator at Youth Encounter, he is growing in his leadership and facilitation skills, unleashing his potential.
By attending Aspiring Leaders Forum, Kyan will gain:
